You dont have a fax server, unless you subscribed, paid for an external fax service, or you downloaded third party fax server software
To use Fax requires that you have a fax enabled modem and that its connected to a std phone line, not a cable access

Hi, so you're saying my HP Officejet 6700 Premium Wireless e-All-in-one printer with faxing capabilities isn't considered a fax server? I can wirelessly fax through it using the included HP software, just want to be utilizing the File Explorer 'Send to > Fax recipient' short-cut in the case where I want to fax multiple digital documents.

Hi,
You would need a fax modem. Either it could be an Internal fax modems plug directly into your computer motherboard, similar to the way a video or sound card is plugged in. External fax modems are small devices that connect to the serial or USB ports.
Sending a fax using a fax server doesn't require you to add any special hardware to your PC. You just set up a connection with the fax server and go.

Hi,
No, I'm not working in a Domain environment. Could you pretty-please answer my question instead of diverting to some generic response?
I asked, is my HP Officejet 6700 Premium e-All-in-one Wireless printer, with faxing capabilities, considered as a fax server? 'Cause I can wirelessly send fax through it with HP's Printer Assistant driver software; or in your words, without adding any special hardware to my PC (Surface Pro).

Hi,
Program Serial Numbers
No, you cannot consider your wireless printer as your fax server.
In fact, a fax server is a program(software) that enables a computer to send and receive fax messages

So, I can send a fax from my computer to my fax machine by printing to the fax device, but I can't set it up to use Microsoft Fax and Scan? I have a Canon MX472.

Online Fax Server
Hello.
My question is how to get Caller ID working in Windows Fax and Scan on a UK BT Telephone Line with the Caller ID service enabled. For the past many years we were using an old PC running Windows XP and Symantec Winfax PRO with a US Robotics Courier external modem plugged into a real serial port. Every fax we received had working Caller ID, which was looked up in the phonebook to clearly see who faxes are from in the Inbox list. Now we are running a new PC with Windows Vista Business and Windows Fax and Scan with the same Courier modem plugged into a USB to Serial adapter. It did work okay, but no Caller ID. I didn't trust the adapter so I bought a new Hayes Accura PCI modem (Conexant Chip) and tried that. No Caller ID. The drivers supplied with Vista would occasionally bluescreen on boot, so I got fed up and bought an Intel 536EP based PCI modem. No Caller ID. This modem had a few issues with receiving faxes from certain people so now I am back to the trusty US Robotics Courier but this time with a Brain Boxes PCI Serial card. Its very reliable, but No Caller ID. The 'Station ID' for incoming faxes naturally works, but this is quite useless for identification purposes as under 40% of people set this correctly. Its important for me to try and get this working since many of our suppliers are not organised with respect to their email. Scrolling through the Inbox list trying to find something is not scalable. TIA! Comments are closed.
